Artist Statement

I am a potter, drawn to how everyday objects can evoke specific memories. Born in Kerala, India, raised in rural North Carolina, and now living in California, I carry with me the textures, colors, and rhythms of endless coastlines, monsoon rains, lush forests, and verdant fields. My work reflects these experiences through vessels that are functional, inviting, and alive with quiet detail.

I aim to bring delight and presence to daily living by combining utility with thoughtful ornament. My forms are designed to feel good in the hand and are made for everyday use. Petals, arches, carved textures, and soft glazes invite both touch and observation.

For me, ceramics is about connection — to the material, the moment, and to the people who bring these objects into their homes. My hope is that my work brings not only beauty, but a quiet joy woven into daily rituals.

I'm inspired by the quiet beauty of everyday life—wildflowers near home, ancient architecture, and the natural forms that surround us.

PROCESS

Ceramic vases on a pottery wheel in a row, in a ceramic studio.

Most of my work begins on the wheel, shaped with durability and everyday use in mind—from table to dishwasher and back. I consider how a cup feels on the lip, how a bowl holds up over time, and how a handle fits comfortably in the hand.

Three ceramic vases with geometric and leaf patterns, a pottery carving tool with blue grips, and a pile of clay shavings on a white surface.

Once the clay is leather-hard, I begin carving. While I start with a loose idea, I let the form guide the pattern—adding spontaneity and character to each piece.

After refining the surface by hand-sanding, I glaze with finishes that break over the carvings to reveal depth and texture. Each piece is fired to cone 10 in a reduction kiln for strength and richness of color.

The art of light and line

I find inspiration in the soft whispers of everyday beauty—the wildflowers nodding along quiet roads, the graceful arches of ancient stone, the patterns carved by seasonal rains and shifting light.
